Isles of Scilly Skybus
For the past 40 years, Skybus has operated lifeline air services between the UK and the Isles of Scilly. Situated 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall and consisting of five inhabited islands with 2,000 residents, the Isles of Scilly sit in a special protection area of crystal blue seas, which is why it attracts 70,000 air passengers each year. The lifeline service also transports 1,000kg of air freight daily to and from the Isles of Scilly and operates a four-hour emergency medical response service. The Skybus fleet consists of four DH6 Twin Otters and three BN2 Islanders, which are based at Land’s End Airport and supported by our dedicated team of operational employees and licensed engineers.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Skybus, which is ambitious and seeking further revenue opportunities.
Requirements for Role:
– Comprehensive knowledge of:
– the applicable EU safety regulations and any associated requirements and procedures
– the AOC holder’s operations specifications
– the need for, and content of, the relevant parts of the AOC holder’s operations manual and familiarity with management systems preferably in the area of aviation.
– Appropriate management experience, preferably in a comparable organisation. and
– 5 years of relevant work experience of which at least 2 years should be from the aeronautical industry in an appropriate position.
– Should hold or have held a valid flight crew licence and the associated ratings appropriate to a type of operation conducted under the AOC.
Duties include (but not limited to):
– Defining Company policy regarding flight operations and controlling the number of personnel required to operate the numbers and types of aircraft being utilised.
– To cooperate, with all other company departments, in aiming for the highest possible degree of safety and for obtaining a satisfactory degree of punctuality, passenger comfort and economy.
– Advising the Accountable Manager on numbers required and the selection of flying staff.
– Liaison with the Head of Training regarding all matters to do with crew training and licencing.
– Liaison with the CAA on all matters covering Company operations.
– All matters concerning flight safety.
– The content, and the amendment of, the Company Operations Manual.
– With the exception of training records, the requisite flight and personnel records being retained, analysed and stored for the statutory periods.
– Ensuring all Aircraft APS weights, Load sheets and loading instructions are correct.
– Regular flying as Captain and Co-pilot on operational flights to ensure compliance with Company standards, good practice and proficiency.
– The overall discipline of flying staff.
– Monitoring of the competency of operations personnel.
– The issue of Flying Staff Instructions.
– Monitoring Aerodrome Operating Minima and Performance Data.
– Monitoring Allowable Deficiencies/MELs.
– The overall responsibility for the operation of the Flight Time Limitation Scheme.
– Responsibilities as laid down in the safety management system manual.
– Changes to AOC and insurance documents. The Chief Pilot will ensure Operations department and Compliance Manager are supplied with sufficient designated copies of the documents. The Chief Pilot will be responsible for or will delegate the responsibility to the Operations department to ensure that Lands End based aircraft are updated.
– Ensure a highly motivated pilot work force through the central crew management policy including, recruitment, promotion and performance.
