Key Responsibilities
- To teach students how to fly helicopters, evaluating their knowledge and skills.
- Complying with the daily program (take-off time, sortie duration).
- Comply with Horizon standards (content of the sortie, standard to teach exercises, grading of sorties).
- Ensuring daily sortie reports are correctly completed, signed by both the Instructor and the student, and filed in the student’s personal file.
- Ensuring student flying time is correctly recorded in the student’s personal file and logbook.
- Raising necessary occurrence, incident, and accident reports.
- Assisting students with logbook entries endorsed by signature.
- Suggesting improvements or corrective actions to the training syllabus or program.
- Reporting non-compliance to the CFI or/and the Safety and Compliance Monitoring Manager.
- Correcting misconduct of any student.
- Completion of extra duties tasked by the CFI.
- Ensure students fulfill medical requirements for flight (wear glasses and carry a spare pair of spectacles if required).
- Act as course mentor when designated by the CFI.
- Comply with the GCAA and all relevant laws and regulations.
- Comply with Horizon Operations, Training, and Safety Management Manuals.
- Comply with Horizon Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure training provided is in accordance with the Horizon Aviation Training Manual.
- Fill out all necessary forms, including logs, in the appropriate manner.
- Keep all Horizon resources, including Aircraft, Simulators, and Facilities, in tidy and serviceable condition.
- Encourage and promote essential aviation values such as airmanship, teamwork, and CRM at all times.
- Ensure all necessary flight plans and general declarations have been submitted prior to the flight.
Experience & Education
- Fluent in English speaking and writing (ELP level 4 minimum).
- Has a valid class 1 medical with no restrictions – Single Pilot.
- Has at least 2000 flying hours, with at least 500 hours instructional, and has conducted ab initio training for at least two courses.
- Holds a valid license (CPL IR/H or ATPL/H).
- Previous experience (must have a Current FI) FI/H in an ATO (civilian), ex-military background is ideal but not essential; Bell 505 & 429 type rated is a plus.
- Should have been a current pilot within the last year.
- Maximum age is 55 years old.
Key Skills
- High level of Instructional Techniques; Advanced knowledge in all subjects (CPL and ATPL) and moderate knowledge of regulations CAR OPS, AIP, CAAP, and EASA.
- Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Teamwork, organizing skills, problem-solving, good communication and interpersonal skills – good at working with people and establishing positive relations with students, maintaining self-discipline and student discipline.
