About the Role

The Group Research Team (RG) seeks an experienced Polymer Pilot Plant Senior Engineer to support BASF’s North American business partners through process research, product development, and scale-up operations. This role combines technical expertise with project management to drive innovation in polymer manufacturing.

Core Responsibilities

You will manage pilot scale development and experimental testing while collaborating with multiple teams to ensure timely delivery of scientific results and new products. Key duties include:

  • Leading pilot plant trials and small-scale production, including developing operating procedures, safety protocols, and quality control measures
  • Executing technology demonstration projects with proper documentation of environmental impacts, waste management, and equipment protocols
  • Conducting safety assessments through HAZOP process participation and leading safety reviews for both existing and new processes
  • Providing technical training and engineering support to operators and colleagues for equipment setup, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Managing chemical safety protocols including SDS implementation, storage guidelines, and hazardous materials handling procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Associate’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred) with 10+ years of experience, or PhD with 5+ years
  • Proven experience scaling up process technology from lab to pilot/commercial scale
  • Practical knowledge of reaction engineering and modeling using ASPEN
  • Extensive background in chemical engineering unit operations and reactor design
  • Experience with distributive control systems and chemical process troubleshooting
