The RPV / UAV Pilot is responsible for executing flight tests, troubleshooting data link issues, operating as a backup remote pilot, and analyzing flight data to produce detailed reports. Reporting to the Flight Test Manager, the RPV / UAV Pilot ensures smooth and safe test flight operations while maintaining communication with the test team and providing insights based on flight data analysis.

Flight Path Planning and Route Development

  • Develop and optimize flight paths for test missions, aligning with safety regulations and test objectives
  • Conduct feasibility checks on planned routes, ensuring they are safe and meet mission requirements
  • Prepare comprehensive flight path plans with waypoints, altitudes, and timings for approval
  • Collaborate with the flight test team to finalize and adjust flight paths as necessary

Data Link Configuration, Debugging, and Operation

  • Configure and maintain data link systems for reliable ground station communication
  • Address connectivity, signal strength, and transmission issues, ensuring stable communication throughout test flights
  • Perform regular maintenance and updates on data link systems to maintain optimal performance
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with data link and communication systems during test flights

Operation of the Ground Control Station

  • Execute test flight procedures, control the aircraft, and monitor performance in line with established protocols
  • Monitor telemetry and video feeds to ensure the aircraft adheres to the planned flight path and objectives are met
  • Document flight operations, noting any deviations from test plans, and provide feedback to the test team

Backup Ground Remote-Controlled Pilot

  • Maintain proficiency in remote piloting techniques and operational procedures
  • Serve as the primary pilot during emergencies or when the main pilot is unavailable
  • Provide support to the primary pilot during test flights by assisting with controls and relaying information

Flight Test Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Gather and analyze telemetry data, video feeds, and performance metrics to evaluate aircraft performance
  • Prepare detailed test reports documenting findings, performance assessments, and improvement recommendations
  • Present data and insights to the flight test team to support future testing and decision-making

This role requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in flight test operations and ground control systems.
