The Opportunity

Flock Safety is seeking an experienced and passionate UAS Pilot to join our team dedicated to advancing Drone as First Responder (DFR) programs. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in testing hardware, piloting drones, supporting logistics, and conducting research and development to enhance our DFR capabilities. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technology that saves lives and improves public safety.

This position is an on-site position in our facilities located in Riverside, CA and will require up to 35% domestic travel.  The UAS Test Pilot will be an individual contributor responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of our drone systems, and providing critical insights and improvements for our technology.

  • Drone Operations: Pilot drones for testing, training, and customer demonstrations while ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and company policies during all drone operations. Conduct pre-flight inspections, flight planning, and post-flight analysis.

  • Hardware Testing and Development: Test and evaluate drone hardware and software to ensure reliability and performance. Collaborate with the engineering and product teams to identify areas for improvement and innovation. Document test results and provide detailed feedback to engineering teams.

  • Logistics and Support: Coordinate the shipping, storage, and maintenance of drone hardware and accessories. Manage inventory of drone components and ensure timely procurement of necessary parts.

  • Research and Development: Conduct research on emerging drone technologies and industry trends relevant to DFR applications. Develop and implement new methodologies for drone operations and integration into first responder workflows. Participate in field testing and pilot programs to validate new technologies and approaches.

  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for drone hardware and software issues. Assist in developing technical documentation and training materials for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all drone operations adhere to FAA regulations, company policies, and safety protocols. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and industry best practices.

  • Customer Interaction: Engage with customers during demonstrations and training sessions, providing expert guidance on the capabilities and applications of our drone technology.

  • Continuous Improvement: Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of our drone systems and operational processes. Provide feedback and suggestions to enhance performance, reliability, and user experience.

The Skillset

  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate: Required to operate drones for commercial purposes.

  • Knowledgeable in FAA Regulations and Safety Protocols: Understanding of the legal and safety requirements for drone operations.

  • Experience in Drone Operations: Preferably in public safety or emergency response settings and proficient in piloting various drone models with a strong understanding of UAV technology.

  • Experience with Drone Hardware and Software Testing: Proficient in diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluation of drone systems.

  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills and Attention to Detail: Ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.

  • Effective Communicator: Ability to convey technical information clearly to various stakeholders.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and be on your feet for extended periods during testing, field operations, and maintenance tasks. Capable of lifting and transporting equipment and hardware weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Travel and Outdoor Work: Ability to travel as required for testing, training, and operational missions (estimated 35% travel). Ability to work outdoors over 70% of the time.

  • Independent and Collaborative Work: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a startup team environment.

  • Customer-Focused Mindset: Ability to support internal and external stakeholders effectively.

  • Strong Research Skills: Ability to stay current on emerging drone technologies and industry best practices.

90 Days at Flock

We are a results-oriented culture and believe job descriptions are a thing of the past. We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days, lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a UAS Test Pilot Flock Safety. 

The First 30 Days

  •  You are onboarded, trained and ready to fly DFR as the Remote Pilot in Command from the ATL warehouse location

The First 60 Days 

  • At the end of 60 Days, you should have a clear understanding of DFR and show complete competence in setting up the dock for demo where you are the sole RPIC

  • You will be competent in troubleshooting all things related to the dock, controllers, internet issues and radio frequency connectivity problems

90 Days & Beyond 

  • At the end of 90 Days, you are rolling.  You are confident with DFR, the dock and RPIC operations.  

  • You can train new RPICs on the dock, setup procedures, troubleshooting and demo protocols

  • You are ready to deploy to the next demo site or can be requested to go with the deployment teams to set up a new agency and be their RPIC while we await the FAA waivers.

Salary & Equity

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary of $70,000-$100,000 as well as stock options.
